Voice Labs and Auditions
Auditions: Milwaukee Opera Theatre schedules auditions as needed and none are currently planned, however, if you're in town and would like to introduce yourself, consider attending a Voice Lab.
Next Voice Labs: Tuesday, March 6, 7-9 pm
Pianists: David Bonofiglio, March
What is a Voice Lab?: It's what happens with some singer-actors gather to perform and practice their craft for each other.
How does Voice Lab work? Once a month, MOT hires a pianist to play any piece that a performer is interested in working on. The singer performs in front of a supportive audience of peers. We proceed through a response process that includes time for questions, opinions and the opportunity for the artist to work on their work. At the end of the evening we break for snacks, conversation and community.
What has Voice Lab been used for? Voice Lab has been used by professional artists to prepare for auditions, try out new repertoire and revisit old, familiar pieces. Composers have used Voice Lab to assist them in the development of new pieces. Voice Lab has been used by avocational singers to continue their practice and by singers returning to music after a hiatus who want a safe place to try things out. Voice Lab is here to support you in whatever way it can.
What does it cost? Voice Labs are offered free of charge. This is one way we support the growth of artists and their art.
Where is it held and how do I sign up? Voice Labs are informal and are held at the home of Artistic Director, Jill Anna Ponasik. If you'd like to attend a Lab, please send Jill Anna an email at jill@jillannaponasik.com You are welcome to attend a Lab even if you'd just like to listen and applaud, though singing of all sorts, is encouraged.
