Spring has Sprung!
And we have two new projects in the works to share!
Earlier in the season, we premiered our very first video opera, Orsa ibernata; now we're continuing our exploration of the intersection of film and opera with two amazing companies from the Twin Cities: Nautilus Music-Theater and Film North!
Partnering with local composer and singer Elizabeth Blood and Minneapolis-based filmmaker Baine Avent, we'll create a short video opera around themes of renewal and rebirth. The finished product will be unveiled through Nautilus's "Rough Cuts" series and to Milwaukee audiences Monday, May 17 at 7:30 PM iin a completely virtual format! |
As part of Nautilus Music-Theater's "Rough Cuts" series, this project
is being presented free of charge ($5 suggested donation).

Following the success of our recent collaboration, Utterance, we'll reunite with local early music ensemble Aperi Animam to close our season with a live, socially distant concert reading of selections from one of the earliest operas, Monteverdi's L'Orfeo. Get a sneak peek into our process as we workshop a newly-commissioned English translation in preparation for a fully staged production next season!

Opera in the Age of Coronavirus
Although this past year has been a challenge for all of us, we've kept the Microbrewey for Opera open, with two productions this past October: first we unveiled our brand new video opera "Orsa ibernata", and then we enchanted the Danceworks parking lot with an art song/dance extravaganza!
We'll always find a way to make opera happen! But we can't do it without your help: your support allows us to continue to produce the local, lyric theater you've come to know and love, and expand the boundaries of what opera in the Age of Coronavirus can be.
