Voice Lab continues...Virtually!
We continue our Virtual Voice Lab series:
September 20, 2020
7:00-9:00 PM
We'll begin taking reservations on Sunday, September 13.
How do I register?
Registrations will open one week before each Virtual Voice Lab. To register, email Company Manager Danny Brylow at [email protected] to let us know you'll be uploading a video! Like our live Voice Labs, we'll take the first 14 singers.
Where do I upload my video?
To participate in Virtual Voice Lab, you've got a few different options:
1) Upload or livestream a video of your performance to Facebook, then tag @Milwaukee Opera Theatre and either
MOT Artistic Director @Jill Anna Ponasik or Company Manager @Danny Brylow.
When posting to Facebook, use the hashtag #VirtualVoiceLab and set your post's privacy settings to "Public".
2) Upload a video to YouTube and email the link to Company Manager Danny Brylow at [email protected].
3) Email your video directly to Company Manager Danny Brylow at [email protected] and we'll take care of the rest!
Whatever format you choose, please upload your video by 6:00 PM on the day of the lab.
But what if I can't get an accompanist?
If you happen to live with a top notch pianist or have access to a recorded accompaniment, by all means, go for it!
But singing a cappella is totally cool! We don't want you getting sick hunting for a world class accompanist!

Per our usual Voice Lab format, Jill Anna and Danny will be on hand to provide feedback via Facebook comments,
and then we'll open the discussion to other Virtual Voice Lab participants:
Step 1 - Statements of Meaning: Responders state what was meaningful, evocative, interesting, exciting, or striking in the work they have just witnessed.
Step 2 - Artist as Questioner: The artist asks questions about the work.
In answering, responders stay on topic with the question and may express opinions in direct response to the artist’s questions.
Got any questions about how this all works?
Email Danny at [email protected]

Voice Lab FAQs
What has Voice Lab been used for? Voice Lab has been used by professional artists to prepare for auditions, try out new repertoire, and revisit old, familiar pieces. Composers have used Voice Lab to assist them in the development of new work. Voice Lab has been used by avocational singers to continue their practice, and by singers returning to music after a hiatus who want a safe place to try things out. Voice Lab is here to support you in whatever way it can.
What does it cost? Voice Labs are offered free of charge. This is one way we support the growth of artists and their art.
Testimonials: "I thought I might be intimidated by all the great voices there, but everyone was so supportive and constructive, that now the only hard part is deciding what to sing next time."
"It was wonderful to be able to perform and hear others perform in such an intimate, non-judgmental situation. It really is a brilliant idea for Milwaukee Opera Theatre to host these."
"If all meetings were run like you run voice lab, people would be so much happier. You keep everyone focused and on task, make it fun, and are SO supportive and positive to everyone!"
